Compatible Numbers with a Buddy

Kia ora
We have been learning about how to use Compatible Numbers. Compatible Numbers are any two numbers which add together to make a Tidy Number (a  number which ends in zero).  We had to choose two Compatible Numbers and another number. Then we had to think of a word problem which used our numbers and give the problem to a buddy to solve. Mrs Ogle, our maths facilitator, said this is called 'posing problems'.

Bob, Bobby and Bobbet have Rugby collection cards. Bob has 16. Bobby has 21 and Bobbet has 14, how many do they have together. My friend Andrew did 16 + 14 = 30 30 + 21 = 51.

Ski Trip

My dad, a lot of other adults, all my class including my teachers and I, went on a bus for about 10 hours from Ohaeawai Primary School all the way to National Park. There we had an exciting adventure with  lots of skiing, rock climbing, exploring and learning about the Army museum and staying in Piper's Lodge. I had the  most exciting time ever with my friends, class mates and my dad. Down below you see a picture on an tank at the museum.

Lahar learning

Today we built Mt Ruapehu in the sandpit. We also made the Whangaehu River valley, the plain below the mountain and the railway bridge at Tangiwai. We wanted to learn how the lahar destroyed the bridge in 1953 causing the Tangiwai Disaster. Kora and Ariana poured lots of water into the crater we had made on top of our mountain. It whoosed down the side of the mountain and into the river valley. The bridge collapsed and bits of our train fell into the river. After that, we watched a short video about what do do if you are on Mt Ruapehu when the lahar siren sounds.  Now I know how to keep safe from a lahar if one happens when I am on a mountain.  Here is my Hazard Notice with the most important information.

And when we were done that, we would cut it out and put it on a different piece of paper. After that we got to decorate it, and it got put on the wall. Here is mine.

Space Writing

We got to write about going to space. I wrote from going to the ship to seeing Earth. Here it is.

drawing has all of the police gadgets on his belt and BAS (Body Armour
System) including his taser, pepper spray, torch and hand cuffs. And then I put

Science - Vinegar & Baking Soda / Powder Experiment

  • My sister and I both did this experiment because her class was doing the same one.
  • We did this experiment to find out if there is a chemical reaction in the mixture of vinegar and baking soda / powder.
  •  We poured one cup of vinegar into our plastic bottle.
  • We after that, we added one teaspoon baking soda into the balloon
  • After, I stuck the balloon over the top of the bottle.
  • And then I held up the balloon and I watch the baking soda pour into the vinegar and it started to fizz.
I did a double experiment with my little sister because her class was doing the same activity as my class. The first time, using baking soda it worked and the balloon inflated. The second time, using baking powder, it did work but not as good as good as the mixture with baking soda. The baking soda worked better than the baking powder. The first two times we used white vinegar and then dad used malt vinegar and baking soda to see what happens, and it work just as good as the first try. I found this fun.

Then I greet them. After that I write the messege

Cardboard Lunch Box

I've been doing some activities over lock-down. This is my cardboard lunch box with compartments inside the lunch box. I liked measuring the cardboard then cutting it into the right size. I didn't like cutting the cellotape because it would stick on everything. I found it interesting to make the lunch box. And this is my cardboard lunch box.

Whitebait Fritters

This term we have been reading a book called 'Whitebait Fritters'. We did an activity based on the story each week. The tasks I did was an animation with the people in my group and a title page of the book for children of 2020. I enjoyed creating the animation. I found hard embedding the slide to my blog.  The learning behind the talk was convincing people that Whitebait is yum and to share what I learnt from the story.
