Play, Make, Create Week 7

 On Friday, we did Play Make Create. This is where the teacher reads you a story and you discuss the message in the story. Then you create something based on the message and also do a piece of writing. You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Stinkosaurus saves Christmas.

 I chose to create a flying plane-car to sub out for Santa's sleigh.

 It was about the importance of friendship and sharing thing fairly.

Pet Day Vaseline Saucer

 We have Pet Day at Ohaeawai School every year and one of the activities we do is to create a symmetrical design on a saucer using flower petals. You put Vaseline on the saucer first to make the flowers stick. That’s why they are called Vaseline Saucers. Here is a pic of me with mine:

It was about a dingo who caught a wombat and tried to make wombat stew. But, it didn’t work because all of the other animals sabotage.

 

 I chose to make a way to catch a wombat without hurting it.

It was about a badger that was too tidy.

I chose to make some for the Badger to get over the mud and for writing I wrote an apology letter.

For maths we practised basic facts and worked on writing a variety of equations which would have a certain number for the answer. Writing Week 5 Term 3 2021 My Metamorphosis

 Yet another thing we did for writing this week was to imagine that we had undergone metamorphosis. 

We had to pretend we had woken up one morning and discovered we had changed. It would be like going to sleep as a caterpillar and waking up as a butterfly. We had to write about what our new body was like and what we could do. I chose to : make myself a octopus man like Davy Jones off The Pirates of the Caribbean.

Week 5 Term 3 2021

 This was our first week in Lockdown Level 4 for 2021. All of our reading this week related to Insects. We did lots of different  activities. Here is one page of my work. I also made a word find.



Maths Week 5 Term 3 2021 Expanded numerals

 This week one thing we have been  learning in maths is how to write expanded numbers. Another way of saying this is ‘expanded form’ or ‘expanded notation’. They all mean the same thing. It’s like you have to break the numbers up into their place value parts and then put + symbols in between them. Example: 

7239 =7000+200+30+9.

Young Leader Trip

On 22 June 2021, I got to go on a two day trip to Auckland to take part in the Grip Leadership Conference. Mrs Edwards, Mrs B and Shiah’s mum, Nardea were our drivers. We had a great time and the conference was really interesting.

Writing Week 8 Term 2 2021

We made some batik art about our wairua (special place). My wairua is my lounge. First we sketched on paper and then traced on some fabric with pencil. After that I used PVA glue and use it to go over the pencil. While I waited to dry and stick I created this poem about my wairua (the second picture) to go with the art. Once the art dried I painted my art. Here is my work.

Reading Week 8 2021

In Week 8, Term 2  our school librarian, Mrs C, retired. On her last day, we put on a 

Book Character Parade. We dressed up in costumes like book characters and then we

went on a parade through the Daycare Centre next to the school, past the shops in

the village, along Hobson St and back up Tennyson St to the school. I chose to dress up as Zavier.


I made goodbye letter to Mrs C. Here is my work.

Play Make Create Week 7

  In Week Seven of Term 2, we did Play Make Create. This is where the teacher reads you a story and you discuss the message in the story. You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: The Day the Crayons Quit.  It was about a kid over working his crayons or not using them at all, so they got a day off. At the end of the book he created a big picture using all the crayons

 I chose to create a yellow sun emoji for the yellow crayon and a way to make white stand out.

On the first week of Term 2 2021 all of Team Moana did a Play, Mate, Create (Where you design something about a book that the whole class reads for fun). We had 4 options for the Play, Mate, Create, design a piece of artwork to celebrate who are, build something to make people smile, create something for someone you care about or make a good luck charm for someone. Blake Virtual Reality

On Week 11 Monday, the Blake Foundation came to our school and brought some VR headsets along with them. They taught us why we shouldn't litter because it's bad for the ocean and the land. Using the headsets, We went under water to marine reserves like Goat Island. We also went to unprotected places where the rocks were covered in kina and they had eaten all the Seaweed. And our teacher made us a task about our experience. Here is my work.

Cicada Life-cyle

We have coded our own unplugged program of the five stages of the cicada lifecycle. We have included some obstacles too.  The goal is to be able to have someone follow our codes to navigate our lifecycle by getting from stage 1 to stage 5 and avoiding the obstacles.  Here are some examples of our coded lifecycles.

This writing task was about a language experience. Our teachers brought different kinds of chocolate to school and we got to eat it! We tried white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, caramel chocolate and pink chocolate. We could write about it in any way we liked but our teachers hoped we would use lots of describing language and our senses.
