Cooper's Beach Camp

Last week we went to camp at Cooper's Beach. We went fishing, went on the confidence course, down the water slide and exploring in the rock pools. I enjoyed the Water Slide.

Day 2 Teaser Week A1

Today we were choosing out of 3 Activities. I chose the first one which was make three similes about a fast as famous runner called Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. These are my similes about her.

Basic Facts Term 4 2019

We have been working on answering basic facts questions quickly and instantly. 

I am at Stage 5. I got 37 out of 60.

Maths

Greats and Grands day 2019

Last Friday we had our Greats and Grands Day. My Nana and Poppa came along. We did performances and dancing. We had a delicious morning Tea and played games. Here is my poem I wrote for my grandparents.

Scratch Coding

Garden to Table term 3

The last day of Garden to Table was here and everybody was either in the Kitchen or the Garden. Red and Orange Garden to Table groups were in the Kitchen, while Green, Purple and Yellow groups were in the Garden. I was in the Red group. In the Kitchen we cooked Quiche & Fritters, and we made kebabs & coleslaw. At the end, we served the food with a Big Picnic on the field.

Waitangi Digital Learning

On Tuesday the year 4's went to Waitangi to do digital learning using Scratch (Coding) and unplugged activities (A game that isn't played on a digital device.

My favourite activity was Coding on Scratch.

Balloon Hovercraft

How does a hovercraft hover?

I predict that The Hovercraft about three cm above the table, because the air that you breath in it will make it hover.

• CD
• Bottle Lid
• Balloon

Step 1: Glue the bottle cap over the CD hole. Step 2: Blow up the balloon. When it is fully inflated twist the end so no air comes out. Step 3: Stretch the balloon over the end of the bottle cap. Step 4: Open up the and place the CD on the surface Step 5: Untwist balloon and and let go.

The air from the balloon comes out of the open bottom of the bottle cap so the air coming out make the Hovercraft hover and move with the air.

The air from the balloon creates a cushion of moving air between the disc and the CD and reduce the friction across the surface.

Bridge Building

We have been learning about forces and how they help shape the sort of bridges that we build.

We learned that there are three main types of bridge design; beam, truss and suspension.  Using this knowledge we designed and built our own bridges.

Miss Fletcher set the challenge that our bridges had to be 30 cm long and strong enough to hold an object.

In my group there were Kaye-Lani, Frank and Stella.  We used an Egg Carton and some card board to build our bridge.

Here is a photo of our beam bridge.  What I like best about our bridge is that it can hold a lot of weight on it's deck.

Volume and Capacity

This week we used popcorn to learn about volume and capacity.

Speeches

For the last two weeks we have been working on writing speeches.
My topic was about  playing more sports.
We had to present them in front of our class.
I think I need to work on my expression.

This week we have been solving a maths problem called 'Maths Boxes' listen to the video to learn more about it.

Moon Rover Lander

For science we made a Moon rover lander using only a paper cup, paper, cello tape and straws. We were given the task of making our Moon rover land softly onto our Moon landscape so that our marsh-mellow astronauts did not fly out.
The materials I used for my Moon rover is a paper cup, some paper, string, cello tape and a plastic bag.
What I like best about my Moon rover is the plastic bag as a parashoot.
One thing I learned about landing on the Moon is that you have to make the landing soft.

Mine is green like someone getting sick.

STEAM

This week we did living world STEAM. We got to choose what activities we wanted to do.
I made a grid on Scratch Jr and I tried an Origami dragonfly but it was hard so I gave up.
I made a spider using craft stuff.

Bug Hotel

On 4/4/2019 we made a bug hotel.

 We had to know what to use.

 So we watched a video of someone making there own bug hotel to help us.

Today we wrote a poem about living things. We had to use an adjective, noun and verb.

Maths

For maths we have been working in mixed ability groups to solve problems. The focus has been solving word problems using place value. We have to select the correct the correct strategy to solve the problem. I have chosen two problems to show you how I work them out. 

I find easy is the addition because it was short and easy.

Hecter's World

To be safe on tech, here is some thing to do. We watched some Hecter's world epesodeds to help us. 

Color poem

We wrote a poem about our house color. We also had to remeber juicy words.

Environmental Writing

We sketched our bean plants that we grew in class. We then wrote words around the outside to describe the bean plant. We had to use these words to write a piece of descriptive writing. We then cut out our picture and glued it on to your writing. Here is my writing.

Self Portrait Art

We have been learning how to sketch our facial features. We needed to put them in the right place on our face. For our background we typed our full name and learned to copy and paste down the page.
